The word uppity was only used in reference to Black people who were thought as defying white people or if they thought a Black person was trying to show them up, for example having an education, a nice house or a new car. When black people were being terrorized in the 20th century South, some people were even afraid to paint their own houses or have a nice lawn because they might be deemed as being uppity and may get burned out. These young idiot reporters use certain words & terms so loosely that they do not even know the connotation of the words that they use or the effects.
